Moscow has broken its own historical record for road safety. The number of deaths in road accidents per 100,000 population (the social risk level) decreased by the end of 2025 to 2.22 units, Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of the capital for transport, told TASS on January 23.

Liksutov noted that Moscow has retained the status of the safest region of the country despite the fact that it is ahead of other regions in terms of population and number of vehicles.

According to the deputy mayor, such results were achieved thanks to 3.8 thousand complexes of photo and video fixation. Cameras detect 67 types of traffic violations.

By the end of 2020, the level of social risk in Moscow was estimated at 3 units, and in 2024 at 2.6 units. It is noted that the regions with the safest traffic in the Russian Federation also include the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, St. Petersburg and the Chechen Republic.

Earlier, on January 19, it was reported that by the end of 2025, 9% fewer road accidents occurred in Moscow than a year earlier. The number of people killed in road accidents in the capital decreased by 15%, while the number of deaths of minors decreased immediately by 42%.
