Specialists from the Academy of the State Fire Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, together with Yandex, are developing an artificial intelligence-based service to help investigators investigate the causes of fires. Ilya Bershov, an employee of the Department of Inquiry and Administrative Practice of the Department of Supervision and Preventive Work of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, told this on January 23 at the Izvestia News Center during a press conference "Behind the Scenes of Fires.": how the inquiry in the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia works", dedicated to the Day of employees of the bodies of Inquiry of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia.

According to him, the system is undergoing a training phase: photos from real fires and inspection protocols are uploaded to it. The algorithm analyzes this data and provides guidance to specialists, focusing their attention on key areas of investigation and automating some of the work.

The main goal of implementing AI is to reduce the time that an investigator spends on drawing up a protocol for examining a fire site, which is the most time—consuming part of the procedure.

"Accordingly, the investigator can devote much more time to communicating with eyewitnesses, searching for other evidence to collect other evidence in order to establish this cause of the fire," the specialist noted.

Bershov stressed that the agency is actively developing the digitalization of internal systems. The fire data entered by the investigators into the official statistical databases is integrated with the Gosuslugi portal, which, in particular, speeds up the process of confirming and issuing fire certificates to citizens.

"We are not standing still and are developing," the representative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations summed up.

Earlier, on January 8, it was reported about a fire in Vladivostok, where rescuers brought 42 people, including four children, out of smoke-filled entrances. The total area of the fire was about 60 square meters, one person was injured.
