On January 22, US President Donald Trump proposed that NATO protect the southern border of the United States from illegal migrants.

"Maybe we need to test NATO: activate Article 5 and force NATO to come and protect our southern border from further invasion by illegal migrants," he wrote on his Truth Social network.

He added that this would allow the United States to free border Patrol agents and send them to other tasks.
