Aggressive elephant killed 22 people in India
In the Indian state of Jharkhand, an aggressive elephant has killed 22 people since the beginning of the year, including an eight-month-old baby and four more older children. This was reported on January 18 by the Daily Mirror (DM) newspaper.
The country's authorities sent at least 80 forestry officers to the scene. Their attempts to subdue the animal with tranquilizers were reported. Residents of local villages are forced to leave their homes and seek shelter.
It is believed that an aggressive elephant is now in a state known as must, a period of sexual activity during which the animal can be dangerous to others. This condition can last up to 20 days.
Earlier, on January 8, it became known that an elephant named Dhurbe, whose attacks in Chitwan National Park in the early 2010s killed 10 to 20 people, is under the control of the authorities and currently does not pose a threat. One of Dhurbe's last attacks was recorded in the spring of 2021, when he attacked specialists who were counting the rhino population in the Chitwan National Park.
