Over the past year, Roskomnadzor has blocked more than 400 VPN services in Russia. This was announced on January 22 in the press service of the department.

"Currently, access is limited to 439 circumvention services for restricting access to illegal information," RIA Novosti quoted the agency as saying.

Last July, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that prohibits the advertising of VPN services. For example, for distributing ads for VPNs and similar tools that give access to banned sites, a fine of up to 80 thousand rubles will be imposed on Russian citizens, up to 150 thousand rubles for officials, and up to 500 thousand rubles for organizations.

At the same time, Anton Gorelkin, deputy head of the State Duma Committee on information Policy, said that Russians would be able to freely use VPN services only for any legitimate purposes.
