There was a replenishment at the Moscow Zoo: on September 16, a cub of the red book primate potto was born, but the female Nellia almost immediately abandoned the baby, and from the first days the Primates department staff took over the care of him. This was announced on Thursday, January 22, by the press service of the Moscow zoo.

This experience has become unique for specialists. The cub was fed a milk formula, and later gradually transferred to mealworms, locusts and crickets, adding fruits, vegetables and protein foods. Now the baby can be seen at the exhibition "Night World" in the department "Primates", writes RIAMO.

Zoo director Svetlana Akulova said that before each feeding, the cub was given a gentle tummy massage to stimulate digestion, and after that it was gently brushed, imitating maternal care, the website notes. kp.ru . As he grew up, he began to be taken out for walks for a short time, which is important for adaptation and development.

It turned out that the cub is a male. He was named Nathan, after his parents, Nellia and Noris. Now the baby is being prepared for life in a family group, Moscow 24 reports. In 2024, the couple already had offspring, a female named Naomi, who grew up with her parents.

Earlier on January 22, it became known that the donkey Zhorik, who helped soldiers in one of the Guards regiments in the special military operation zone and recently moved to the Moscow Zoo, would not ride visitors. The staff of the Children's Zoo department takes care of him, the Moscow city news agency clarifies. Zhorik has adapted to the weather and tolerates frosts normally. He walks in the morning, and spends the rest of the time in the aviary, clarifies 360.ru .
