Candidate of Medical Sciences, doctor, clinical pharmacologist Tatiana Molostova told how to suspect vitamin deficiency in winter.

In an interview with Radio 1 on Thursday, January 22, the specialist warned that unpleasant symptoms in the cold season are often associated with a deficiency of vitamins and minerals. According to her, increased fatigue, even with habitual loads, apathy and decreased motivation should be alerted.

She explained that the body can send more specific signals: when there is a lack of iron, the condition of the skin, hair and nails worsens, and magnesium deficiency can manifest itself in leg cramps and restless legs syndrome. The expert also noted that long—term non-healing cracks in the corners of the mouth may indicate deficiencies and require spot tests for vitamin D, ferritin and vitamin B12, with mandatory specialist advice.

Earlier on January 22, Mikhail Pyanzin, a rehabilitation doctor, called for monitoring vitamin D levels and maintaining physical activity in winter. According to him, a lack of vitamin D leads to the fact that human muscles contract poorly, and mild cramps appear, notes 360.ru .

On January 21, Molostova talked about ways to raise iron levels in the body. According to her, a combination of red meat and foods with vitamin C, such as sauerkraut, helps to make up for iron deficiency, while compote does not bring vitamin benefits.

On January 19, general practitioner Nadezhda Chernyshova said that feeling chilly may indicate vitamin deficiency. In an interview with Moskva 24, she said that if adjusting the regime does not help, then you need to seek medical help. According to her, chilliness can also be a sign of hormonal disorders or vascular blood flow disorders, writes RT.

Earlier, nutritionist Veronika Gusakova said that zinc, vitamin D and magnesium help maintain a positive emotional background and cope with stress. Vitamin D is involved in the synthesis of serotonin, magnesium helps reduce excessive stress on the nervous system, and zinc supports the work of dopamine receptors, affecting clarity of thinking and the ability to experience pleasure, NSN notes.
