- Vance noted the good progress of the negotiations between the United States and NATO on Greenland
The negotiations between the United States and NATO on Greenland are going well. This was announced on January 22 by American Vice President Jay Dee Vance during a speech in Ohio, broadcast by The Hill newspaper.
"Negotiations with NATO are going well. I believe that when the president [of the United States Donald Trump] decides to achieve something in negotiations, he achieves it," Vance said.
The politician added that Greenland is important for the national security of the United States because the country's entire missile defense system depends on security in the Arctic region. He stressed that Denmark and other members of the North Atlantic Alliance should recognize the importance of this deal both for the United States and for the whole world.
On the same day, Trump announced that the United States was negotiating to gain "full access" to Greenland. He again noted that part of the American missile defense system "Golden Dome" will be located in Greenland.
Prior to that, on January 21, the American leader made a statement that a very productive meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte had formed the basis for a future agreement on Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic region. Trump noted that those responsible for the negotiations will report directly to the American leader himself.
