FT spoke about the large-scale modernization of the Polish Navy
Poland is embarking on a large‑scale naval renewal program, which will be the largest since the Cold War. The initiative is aimed at strengthening the country's combat and support capabilities in the Baltic Sea. This was reported by the Financial Times on January 22.
"Poland should actively participate in ensuring security in the Baltic Sea," said the country's deputy defense Minister Pavel Beida.
His comment came amid the launch of a large‑scale naval modernization program.
The Financial Times clarifies that the frigate project is being implemented by a consortium of Polish PGZ and British Babcock, its cost is estimated at € 3.5 billion, and the submarines will be supplied by Saab for €2.3 billion. The project is aimed at strengthening the potential of the Polish shipbuilding industry and updating the surface fleet.
In November 2025, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that Poland would purchase three submarines for the country's Navy. According to him, the purchase of these ships will mean investments in the Polish shipbuilding industry on an unprecedented scale.
