Popsicle can remain a part of the diet without harm to health — with a reasonable approach to selection and quantity. Evgeny Belousov, a gastroenterologist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), Candidate of Medical Sciences, told Izvestia on January 24 about what a treat should be in order to bring pleasure, not problems.

"A classic popsicle is about 120-170 kcal per serving, 8-12 grams of fat, of which about 6-7 grams are saturated, and 9-15 grams of sugar. In terms of dietary recommendations, this means that one stick easily covers up to a third of the daily saturated fat limit and a decent proportion of "allowed" sweets. Therefore, the ideal popsicle is not "zero calorie", but an honest size: one standard briquette once a day or less, and not three in a row "because they are small," the specialist explained.

Belousov draws attention to the fact that the time and method of eating ice cream are also important. It is better to eat popsicles after the main meal, rather than on an empty stomach, in order to avoid a sharp spike in blood sugar levels. Slow, deliberate consumption helps to maintain a sense of pleasure and reduces the risk of overeating. According to him, it is important for children not to turn ice cream into a permanent reward, otherwise sweets can become a way of emotional solace.

Individual groups of people, the gastroenterologist emphasizes, should treat popsicles with particular caution. If you are lactose intolerant and allergic to cow's milk protein, classic ice cream can cause unpleasant symptoms. There are lactose-free and vegetable analogues, however, they also need to pay attention to the sugar and fat content. For people with diabetes, ice cream is acceptable only if carbohydrates and portion size are strictly taken into account, and for patients with impaired lipid metabolism and cardiovascular diseases, it is important to limit the frequency of consumption and choose foods with a low saturated fat content.

"Ice cream on a stick doesn't have to be either a "strict taboo" or "I eat until I'm full." In a world where there are so many sweets around, one thoughtful portion of a good popsicle — with a clear composition, an adequate size and at the right moment — can remain what it was invented for: a small treat, not a big health problem," the expert emphasized.

DDX Fitness personal trainer and nutritionist Alyona Averyanova told Gazeta on December 26.Ru", that restoring nutrition requires not a strict diet, but a systematic approach and a refusal to drastically reduce the caloric content of the diet. Averyanova recommended returning to the usual diet gradually, maintaining regular meals and paying attention to sufficient protein intake. In addition, she urged to consume food consciously.
