Fraudsters spread malware to hack banking applications under the guise of popular online games, gaining remote access to user accounts. This became known on January 22.

As follows from the materials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, which were reviewed by RIA Novosti, attackers are embedding remote access to online banking programs into the so-called "demo versions" of games. As a result of installing such an application, fraudsters gain full control over financial transactions on the user's smartphone.

An example is the case in Syktyvkar, where a woman lost about 30 thousand rubles after installing such an application. A criminal case on theft from a bank account has been opened on this fact.

Earlier, on January 20, it was reported that the Russian Interior Ministry recommended using the "Trusted Contact" function on the Gosuslugi portal to protect accounts, including those of the elderly, from fraudsters. This option allows you to send confirmation codes to a trusted person when access is restored. At the same time, the assistant does not get access to the user's personal account and cannot perform any actions in it. To enable the feature, you must select a trusted person with a verified account and specify their passport information and phone number.
