An unknown man tried to enter the territory of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in New York and damaged the property of the mission. This was announced on January 21 at the Russian diplomatic mission.

"The attacker, whose identity is being verified by American law enforcement agencies who arrived at the call of Russian diplomats 15 minutes later, climbed onto the second-floor balcony. Having failed to break the closed shutters, he tore off the New Year's garland, but could not untie the Russian flag installed there from the flagpole," TASS reports.

It is noted that the violator is currently detained, and the police are investigating all the circumstances of the incident.

Russian diplomats stressed that provocations against the mission in New York occur regularly, and, according to them, such actions do not always receive due opposition from the US authorities, despite repeated official appeals from the Russian side demanding security.

Earlier, on September 1, it was reported that the driver of the car rammed through the gates of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Sydney. The violator was quickly neutralized thanks to the coordinated actions of the Australian competent authorities, the ministry said.
