The State Duma will strengthen measures to protect historical truth
A draft law has been submitted to the State Duma aimed at strengthening preventive measures to counter the distortion of historical truth and to curb evasion from the duty to protect the Fatherland. The draft law (No. 1127364-8) was posted on January 21 in the legislative activity database of the Parliament.
"The formation of critical thinking and resistance to fakes among young people strengthens civic responsibility. Protecting the Motherland begins with the truth — about our glorious history, our present and the civic duty of each of us," said Vasily Piskarev, one of the authors of the bill, head of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti—Corruption.
According to him, "the special services of unfriendly countries do not stop their subversive work to falsify the history of Russia and manipulate public consciousness, provoking illegal behavior." He added that improving the crime prevention system would increase the effectiveness of measures to ensure security, protect national interests and spiritual and moral values.
Earlier, on January 18, it was reported that the Chairman of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, stressed the importance of preserving the memory of the heroic deeds of the inhabitants of besieged Leningrad and the crimes of the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War. She noted that this historical truth must be conveyed to the youth of Russia and other countries in order to prevent its distortion and oblivion.
