Trump delivered a speech at the WEF in Davos. The main thing
On January 21, US President Donald Trump delivered a speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos (Switzerland). During his speech, among other things, he focused on Greenland, Venezuela and the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. The main statements of the American leader are in the material of Izvestia.
About the US influence on the world
During a speech in Davos, US President Donald Trump pointed out that a bad economic situation in the United States would negatively affect the entire world.
"The United States is the economic engine on the planet. When America thrives, the whole world thrives. When things go bad, they go bad for all of us. You all follow us down, and you follow us up," he said.
About Greenland
During his speech at the WEF, the US President focused on Greenland: "We have great respect for Greenland and the people of Denmark. But every NATO ally must be able to defend its own territory. The bottom line is that no country or group of countries is in a position to do what the United States can."
He also added that the United States acted stupidly by "giving" Greenland to Denmark after World War II, and also pointed out that it was the Americans who saved the island.
"There's no stopping us! This is the biggest statement. They thought I would use force. But we don't have to use force. The United States is just asking to be given Greenland. We've already had it. Take it back! <...> We saw this during World War II, when Denmark fell to Germany after just six hours of fighting and proved completely unable to defend either itself or Greenland... We considered it our duty to send our own forces to hold the territory of Greenland and ensure its "security," the American leader said.
He also noted that Greenland has rare earth metals, but the United States does not need the island for this, but for "strategic national and international security."
Trump also emphasized that he does not want to use force in the context of Greenland.
"I am seeking immediate negotiations to once again discuss the acquisition of Greenland by the United States, just as we have acquired many other territories throughout our history, as have many European countries. But it will not be a threat to NATO. This will significantly enhance the security of the entire alliance," Trump said.
At the same time, the American president, in the context of the acquisition of Greenland, said that Europe has a choice.: "You can say yes and we will be very grateful, or you can say no and we will remember."
About the conflict in Ukraine
The American president noted that the conflict in Ukraine would not have started if the American elections in 2020 had not been rigged.
He added that Washington should not be involved in resolving the Ukrainian crisis: "The United Nations (UN — Ed.) should be engaged in this. I shouldn't be doing this."
Trump also expressed the opinion that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky want to conclude a deal on Ukraine. The US president added that he himself wants to achieve a peaceful settlement.
"They want us to help them with Ukraine. And let me say: we are really helping... There's a real massacre going on there, and that's what I want to stop," Trump said.
Trump said he plans to meet with Zelensky on Wednesday.
About Venezuela
During his speech, Trump pointed out that Venezuela has problems, but the United States is helping it, and that in the next six months the Latin American country will earn more than in the last 20 years. The country's affairs "will go fantastically," he noted.
"We have a great cooperation. When the attack was completed, they said: "Let's make a deal." More people should do this," the American leader said.
About Europe
The American president also pointed out that, in his opinion, European countries are going in the wrong direction: "I love Europe, and I want to see Europe doing well, but it is not moving in the right direction."
In addition, he criticized the European migration and energy policy. He noted that Europe is experiencing an "energy collapse" faced by all European countries that are making the transition to renewable energy sources.: "There are wind farms everywhere that are destroying your land."
"Issues of energy, trade, immigration and economic growth should be central to anyone who is interested in a strong and united West. Europe should do its own thing, they need to abandon the culture they have created over the past 10 years. What they're doing to themselves is terrible, they're destroying themselves. We want strong allies, not significantly weakened ones. We want Europe to be strong," the US president said.
About the US economy
Trump pointed out that the United States is imposing duties against other countries in order to repair the damage they themselves have caused to America. He pointed out that thanks to the duties, the United States radically reduced "the rapidly growing trade deficit, which was the largest in world history."
"We were losing over $1 trillion every year, and that money was just being thrown away. But in one year, I managed to reduce our monthly trade deficit by as much as 77%," he said.
He also added that the country has managed to reduce federal spending by $100 billion and the federal budget deficit by 27%.
He drew special attention to trade agreements: "We have concluded historic trade deals with partners covering 40% of all U.S. foreign trade, including some of the largest companies and countries in the world."
About migration
US President Donald Trump told the WEF participants that the world is facing unprecedented devastating consequences of economic and migration policies.
"Instead of making countries rich, powerful, and powerful, the result has been record budget and trade deficits, as well as rising sovereign debt caused by the largest wave of mass migration in human history. We have never seen anything like this," he said.
Trump also added that the world is collapsing before our eyes, and the leaders do not understand what is happening.
Context
Earlier, Trump said that the UN should continue its work and realize its potential.
"I am a big supporter of the potential of the United Nations, but it has not been able to realize this potential. <...> I believe that the United Nations should be allowed to continue its work, because its potential is truly huge," Trump said during a briefing for reporters at the White House.
At the same time, he added that, despite its potential, the UN did not contribute to the settlement of any conflict by the American leader: "Take all the conflicts that I have ended. The UN has not helped me with any conflict."
He also expressed confidence that he deserves the Nobel Prize for every conflict that he has managed to resolve.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that Trump had reposted a message on his Truth Social network stating that the real enemies of the United States are the United Nations and NATO, not Russia and China.
