The leaders of Western countries refuse to participate in the "Peace Council" of US President Donald Trump, not wanting a legal formalization of Washington's dominance. This was stated by political scientist Vladimir Olenchenko on Wednesday, January 21.

According to the expert, it is assumed that Trump will be the chairman of the "Peace Council", and this is a legal formalization of US dominance, which was not the case before.

"There are, for example, UN and NATO documents. But in the UN, all countries participate on equal terms, and in NATO, the primacy of the United States is not legally fixed. It is clear in the "Council" that Washington will dictate the agenda and conditions of activity," the political scientist explained in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

Olenchenko noted that in such conditions, European countries fade into the background and turn into ordinary participating countries, which, among other things, hurts their self-esteem and deprives them of the halo of leadership.

He believes that French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer want to remain as leaders.

"Both have big ambitions, and they fear that their status will be leveled. Besides, it is now obvious that they disagree with Trump on a number of other issues," Olenchenko added.

Earlier in the day, Egypt accepted Trump's invitation to join the Peace Council organization. Azerbaijan, Argentina, Bahrain, Belarus, Hungary, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Israel, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have already agreed to the initiative to join the council.

The day before, it became known that Starmer would refuse to join the US-promoted "Peace Council" for the management of the Gaza Strip, RT reports. It is noted that the idea of paying a billion dollars from taxpayers' funds for participation in a body where the Russian leadership is also expected to be present has no political prospects, reports NSN.

The Financial Times newspaper on January 20 indicated that most of the European Union (EU) countries rejected the invitation of the American leader to join the "Peace Council," according to the website. kp.ru . According to the publication, Europe fears that the "Peace Council" will be able to sideline the UN as a platform for resolving global conflicts in the future.
