The average cost of a used car in the Russian Federation returned to the level of 2023
Over the past year, the average cost of a car with a mileage of no more than 15 years in Russia decreased by 5.5%, or almost 150 thousand rubles, and reached 1.89 million rubles. <url> Assessment told Izvestia about this on January 22, having studied the array of ads for the sale of cars published in 2025.
According to analysts, compared to January last year, the number of ads in December increased by a third, primarily due to private sellers. This steady trend, along with a general cooling in demand, drove down prices, which dropped to the level of mid-2023 by the end of the year.
Thus, the average cost of a used car of a foreign brand, excluding China and the United States, decreased by 10% over the year to 2.17 million rubles. The last time it was at this level was in January 2023. The average price of a car from a Russian manufacturer from January to December last year lost 5%, dropping to 686 thousand rubles, which is the lowest level since October 2023.
Chinese cars are becoming more and more visible in the secondary market, their share reached 7% by the end of the year, and the average cost decreased from 2.2 million to 2 million rubles, which is 8% lower than in January, experts said. The average age of a used car in the Russian Federation is 9 years old, and the mileage is 145 thousand km. Over the year, the share of cars with a hybrid power plant has increased from 1.9% to 2.2%.
The Irkutsk Region topped the list of regions where the average cost decreased the most by the end of the year. Compared to January values, the price of a used car there decreased by 21%, to 1.84 million rubles. This is followed by Kirov (-17%; 988 thousand rubles) and Astrakhan (-15.4%; 1.04 million rubles) regions. The average cost increased only in four regions: the Chechen Republic (10.6%; 1.34 million rubles), the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (7.3%; 957 thousand rubles), the Republic of North Ossetia–Alania (3.5%; 1.23 million rubles) and the Lipetsk Region (1.2%; 985 thousand rubles).
The Mercedes-Benz V-Class (-21%; 8.8 million rubles) and Exeed LX (-20.4%; 1.75 million rubles) became the cheapest models on the secondary market over the year. Kia Rio (-18%; 1.46 million rubles) took the third place. The three models whose average cost increased from January to December 2025 included the Mini Hatchback (11.7%; 1.3 million rubles), Renault Arkana (9.2%; 1.73 million rubles) and Audi A8 (7%; 2.34 million rubles).
On January 21, it became known that in Russia, 72.2% of the country's passenger car fleet is occupied by cars over the age of 10. According to the head of the ROAD, over the past 10 years, the Russian fleet has almost doubled in age.
