- Bloomberg has learned about France's postponement of the first meeting of G7 finance ministers
France has postponed the first meeting of finance ministers of the Group of Seven (G7), which was supposed to discuss threats by US President Donald Trump to impose duties on a number of European countries. This was reported by Bloomberg on January 21.
French Finance Minister Roland Lescure tried to organize a videoconference with his colleagues on January 21, but his representative said that the meeting had been postponed to next week due to schedule restrictions related to the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos and the busy schedule of ministers.
The authors of the article emphasize that France considers it necessary to give a decisive response to threats from Trump.
On January 17, Trump announced the introduction of US duties of 10% with the possibility of increasing to 25% against a number of European countries due to the situation around Greenland. Starting from February 1, 2026, tariffs will apply to Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands and Finland.
Later, on January 21, the American leader announced that the United States was imposing duties against other countries in order to repair the damage they themselves had caused to the United States. He added that he had managed to reduce the US monthly trade deficit by 77% in one year.
