- The Italian Foreign Ministry ruled out the possibility of a military confrontation with Russia
Italy does not intend to go to war with Russia over Ukraine. This was announced on January 21 by the country's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani.
"We are not at war and will never fight against Russia, but peace is not just the absence of war. This is a guarantee that the people can make decisions freely," Il Giornale newspaper quoted him as saying.
The minister also expressed the opinion that many countries support the idea of providing Kiev with security guarantees similar to article 5 of the NATO treaty, without formal membership in the alliance.
Yesterday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that relations between Russia and Italy are at their lowest point. He noted that Italy is one of the few countries that "shun" Russian art. At the same time, Lavrov noted that Italians used to be uncharacteristic of fighting art.
