The FSB prevented a terrorist attack at the Ufa police department

In Ufa, employees of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia prevented a terrorist attack prepared by two foreigners from Central Asia. This was announced on January 21 by the FSB's Public Relations Center.

"In Moscow and the Republic of Bashkortostan, the illegal activities of two citizens of one of the Central Asian countries, who were members of an international terrorist organization banned in Russia, who planned to commit a terrorist attack in Ufa, were suppressed," the center said.

According to the agency, the suspects attracted the attention of the special services while collecting information about one of the police departments in Ufa, which they chose as the target of the attack. During the exploration, they acquired automatic firearms, purchased components for the manufacture of an improvised explosive device (IED) and began assembling it.

During the arrest, one of the members of the terrorist group started shooting at FSB officers. The service managed to neutralize him with return fire, there were no casualties among law enforcement officers and civilians.

The second member of the group was arrested, and investigative measures are currently underway with him. During searches at the residential addresses of the attackers, law enforcement officers seized elements of an explosive device and attributes of a terrorist organization.

The Investigative Department of the Federal Security Service for the Republic of Bashkortostan has opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 30, Part 2 of Article 205 ("Attempted commission of a terrorist act") and Part 2 of Article 205.5 ("Participation in the activities of a terrorist organization") of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
