On January 21, the State Duma adopted in the first reading a draft law on granting regions the right to determine the list of vehicles that can move along designated lanes for public transport. The document is published on the website of the lower house of Parliament.

We are talking about vehicles weighing over 5 tons and with a capacity of more than eight passengers. Currently, only the cities of federal significance — Moscow, St. Petersburg and Sevastopol - have the authority to determine the list of buses for driving along the allocated areas.

The Russian Ministry of Transport drafted the bill last year. As noted in the ministry, with the innovation, each entity will be able to make decisions taking into account regional specifics and urban infrastructure, as well as the needs of residents.

The initiative primarily concerns tourist transport and transportation services for mass events. Its approval will reduce travel time and create more comfortable conditions for travel and recreation, the Ministry of Transport said.

Earlier, on September 18 last year, the State Duma proposed to exempt from administrative liability drivers of motorcycles and mopeds, as well as those who transport disabled people who drive in designated lanes. In Moscow and St. Petersburg, the amount of the fine for driving in the designated lane is 4.5 thousand rubles, in the regions — 2.25 thousand rubles.
