- The share of passenger cars older than 10 years in the Russian Federation has exceeded 72%
In Russia, 72.2% of the country's passenger car fleet is occupied by cars over the age of 10. This was announced by Alexey Podshchekoldin, head of the Association of Russian Automobile Dealers (ROAD), TASS reported on January 21.
According to Podshchekoldin, in 2015 the share of passenger cars at this age in Russia was 49%. Thus, by 2025, the fleet has almost doubled in age.
As for the segment of light commercial vehicles (LCVs), the same indicator has grown from 58.8% to 76% in 10 years.
Currently, the average age of a car in Russia is about 16-17 years old, Podshchekoldin noted. According to his estimates, 3 million new cars need to be sold per year to rejuvenate the fleet. Then, 10 years later, there will be 30 million cars in Russia at the age of 10.
Also at a press conference in Moscow, the head of the ROAD said that the average cost of a new passenger car in Russia during 2026 could increase by about 10% and reach 3.85 million rubles.
As Sergey Tselikov, director of Autostat, said on January 14, sales of Chinese-built cars in Russia decreased by 38% in 2025, with a total of 489,000 such cars sold. At the same time, sales of Russian-built cars in 2025 increased by 8%, while the overall car market declined. So, during the year, 701.7 thousand new cars were sold in the Russian Federation, rolled off Russian assembly lines. Their market share increased to 52.9%.
