The Russian Embassy in Finland asked about the purpose of the fence at the border.
The fence built by Finland on the border with Russia does not manifest itself in any way according to the purpose intended by the authorities. This was announced on January 21 at the Russian Embassy in Helsinki.
"The only question is who and what it (the barrier system) depends on. — Ed.) protects. In any case, the fence has not yet shown itself as a means of countering some kind of "hybrid influence" from Russia," the diplomatic mission's Telegram channel says.
The Embassy commented on the publication of the Finnish newspaper Yle about the first detainee by the Finnish border guards on the border of the Russian Federation with Finland.
"The Finnish Border Guard staff takes the result with great enthusiasm and hopes that the first case will not be the last," the embassy wrote.
The diplomatic mission noted that the detained man turned out to be a Finnish citizen. In addition, he wanted to cross the border into Russia.
Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish national conservative Freedom Alliance party, said on January 18 that Finland's accession to NATO turned out to be the worst deal and a hasty decision. According to him, Finland's economy has suffered due to the severance of ties with Russia, and now it is also threatened by new tariffs that the administration of US President Donald Trump may impose due to Helsinki's support for Greenland.
