The Pentagon has not received instructions from US President Donald Trump on developing a plan for a military operation to capture Greenland or actions after the possible establishment of control over the island. This was reported on January 20 by the New York Times (NYT).

"Although Pentagon officials are planning all possible military options, they have not yet been asked to plan an invasion of Greenland or the consequences of such an operation," the material says.

At the same time, the publication notes that representatives of the Pentagon and senior commanders privately express dissatisfaction and irritation over the fact that Trump continues to consider the use of military force to capture Greenland.

On January 20, Trump did not give a direct answer to the question of how far he was willing to go in obtaining Greenland for the United States. He also expressed the opinion that the people of Greenland will be glad to have the opportunity to join the United States after he talks with the residents of the island himself.

On the same day, the US president declared that Denmark was not capable of defending Greenland. According to him, some Danish officials don't even visit the island. He added that the United States should get the island.

On January 14, Trump reiterated that Greenland was necessary for Washington to ensure national security. The head of the government of Greenland, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, noted that he considers the "repeated rhetoric" of the United States regarding the island to be disrespectful and unacceptable.
