Donetsk commemorates victims of Ukrainian Armed Forces strike on Mercury market
On January 21, Donetsk commemorated the victims of the attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the Mercury market on the day of the second anniversary of the strike. A table was set up in the open square of the market, where visitors brought flowers in memory of the victims.
"Exactly two years ago, two 155-mm (155-mm caliber. — Ed.) a NATO shell: one directly under a tree, and the second — literally 10 m away — into the market itself, into the roof. Today, residents of the city <...> came to an improvised memorial to honor the memory of the victims," said Izvestia correspondent Evgeny Bykovsky.
The head of the Young Guard of United Russia in the DPR, Sergei Dobrovolsky, said that the volunteers then began to help people from the very first minutes.
"Our guys came here after the shelling, they helped here, right here at the market, in those terrible events. We sent the older guys here," Dobrovolsky shared.
The armed forces of Ukraine fired on the territory of a market with a large crowd of people in the Kirovsky district of Donetsk on January 21, 2024. 28 people were killed and 30 others were injured in the attack. Denis Pushilin, the head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), noted that the market was attacked on a weekend when it was most crowded.
The Russian Foreign Ministry called the Ukrainian Armed Forces strike a barbaric terrorist attack against the civilian population. The Russian side categorically condemns such actions and calls on international organizations and governments to condemn Kiev's attack.
