The expert explained the reasons for the lack of regime change in Iran after the protests

Iran's political system has demonstrated high resilience, despite the regular waves of protest activity that have rocked the country over the past decade and a half. Vladimir Sazhin, senior researcher at the Center for Near and Middle East Studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said this on January 21 during a round table of the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) on the topic: "The situation in the Middle East: risks of military escalation around Iran."

According to him, the current protests fit into a familiar cycle for Iran. So, the first large-scale performances occurred in 2009, followed in 2017, 2019 and 2022, and every time they shook the system, but does not lead to its removal.
