By the end of 2025, 643 showrooms of Chinese brands engaged in the sale of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were closed in Russia. This was reported on January 21 by Kommersant with reference to calculations by Gazprombank Avtolizing and Avtobusinessrevue.

According to their data, this figure is 1.4 times higher than the level of 2024. At the same time, 459 salons were opened during the year, which is three times less than in 2024. As a result, the total number of points of sale of car brands from China decreased by 7% last year, to 2.6 thousand, and their share decreased from 67% to 64%. The total number of showrooms of all car brands decreased by 85, to 4.07 thousand. The number of openings decreased by 46.8%, to 678 outlets, and 763 showrooms were closed (-22.6% YoY).

The Russian brand Solaris (55 showrooms) became the leader in the number of openings in 2025. Next comes the Korean KGM (54 showrooms) and the Chinese Li Auto —44 points). The top three brands in terms of the number of closed salons were BAIC (56 units), Bestune (54 units) and JAC (44 units) brands. The Chinese Chery remained the leader in the total number of showrooms (216 units), and almost all of them, according to experts, also received the Tenet sign by the end of the year. The number of Geely salons that continued to sell Knewstar crossovers was 213 units. Changan finished with 200 showrooms.

According to Alexander Kornev, head of the department for work with importers at Gazprombank Automotive Leasing, approximately one in four Chinese car dealerships was closed or reformatted under a different brand in 2025. He pointed out that more than a hundred retailers preferred not to invest in Chinese brands anymore, but to work with new Russian brands — we are talking about brands created for the Russian market and with localization of production in the country. Nikolay Ivanov, Director of the New Car Sales Department at Rolf, noted that the number of dealers on the market was excessive. He confirmed that in 2025, some dealers were operating at a loss, especially in the first half of the year.

Earlier, on January 15, Russian dealers said that after the changes related to the recycling fee, the economic model of the car business in Russia is shifting towards localization. Many market players see the need to organize the assembly of machines in the country.

As Sergey Tselikov, director of Autostat, told on January 14, sales of Chinese-built cars in Russia decreased by 38% in 2025, a total of 489 thousand such cars were sold. At the same time, sales of Russian-built cars in 2025 increased by 8%, while the overall car market declined. So, during the year, 701.7 thousand new cars were sold in the Russian Federation, rolled off Russian assembly lines. Their market share increased to 52.9%.
