Only about 10% of people manage to lose weight through diet and regular exercise. High discipline and willpower play a key role in this. For most, the struggle to lose weight without additional support is extremely difficult. On January 24, Kira Zaslavskaya, Director of New products at PROMOMED Group, told Izvestia about how to get rid of unnecessary kilograms.,

According to her, obesity and diabetes have become one of the main challenges for humanity today and have become an epidemic. Throughout history, humans have lived in conditions of food scarcity and high physical activity, when movement was necessary for food production and survival. The modern lifestyle is fundamentally different: affordable food, frequent snacking and lack of exercise lead to an imbalance between energy consumption and expenditure. As a result, the body begins to actively accumulate fat reserves.

"The brain perceives the diet as a threat, a restriction, and the body begins to resist, hunger hormones are produced, for example ghrelin. And the level of adiponectin, the hormone responsible for the breakdown of fatty acids and regulation of blood glucose levels, on the contrary, decreases. For this reason, we often hear from people who lose weight: "I don't eat anything, but I'm getting better anyway." Therefore, the fight against excess weight is a very difficult task, which most are not able to cope with alone," the specialist noted.

Zaslavskaya explained that excess adipose tissue is directly related to metabolic disorders. It causes insulin resistance, hormonal disruptions and chronic inflammation in the body, which increases the risk of developing a number of diseases. Obesity often precedes type 2 diabetes, but with timely intervention, metabolic health can be restored. Weight loss remains a key measure in both the treatment and prevention of this disease.

The expert also drew attention to the fact that attitudes towards medical treatment of obesity have changed significantly in recent years. Previously, this approach was perceived as an attempt to "circumvent" the need for willpower, but today obesity is considered a chronic disease requiring complex therapy. Modern medicine is increasingly using knowledge about natural metabolic regulators, incretins, which are involved in controlling appetite and blood sugar levels.

The appearance of drugs whose molecules are similar in structure to incretins has become an important breakthrough in the treatment of obesity and diabetes mellitus. These tools allow you to influence the biological mechanisms of weight gain, not just behavioral factors. According to Zaslavskaya, in the conditions of the modern food environment and lifestyle, it is the combination of changes in habits and medical support that gives the most sustainable result and allows not only to reduce weight, but also to maintain long-term health.

On January 5, Daria Khaikina, an endocrinologist and nutritionist at the SM Clinic, spoke about the consequences of hunger strikes after the New Year holidays. According to her, this strategy helps to slow down the metabolism, and its decrease subsequently complicates weight loss. The doctor also clarified that fasting puts the body under stress and can lead to hormonal disruptions.
