The court of first instance sentenced former Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Han Dok-soo to 23 years in prison in the case of the illegal imposition of martial law in 2024. The January 21 meeting was broadcast by YTN TV channel.

Han Dok-soo was recognized as one of the key participants in the rebellion and accused of assisting the leader of the conspirators, which refers to former President Yoon Seok-yeol.

The prosecutor's office demanded 15 years in prison for the former prime minister, but the court of first instance imposed a more severe punishment on him.

On January 16, Reuters reported on the verdict of a South Korean court against ex-president Yun Seok-young to five years in prison in a case of obstruction of justice. It was noted that he was also found guilty of forgery of official documents and failure to comply with due process before declaring martial law.

Yoon Seok-young was arrested on January 15, 2025 in a corruption case, which was an unprecedented case when law enforcement agencies detained a person who ruled the state. Subsequently, he was taken into custody, which caused discontent among his supporters, who staged pogroms on the territory of the state. On July 15, it was reported that Yoon Seok-yeol was arrested again, as the court also feared that he might destroy evidence.
