The prosecutor's office sent a request to overturn Lazareva's sentence.
The prosecutor's office is asking to cancel the sentence in absentia of TV presenter Tatyana Lazareva (recognized in the Russian Federation as a foreign agent, included in the list of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring) in the case of evading the duties of a foreign agent. This was announced on January 21 by her lawyer Leonid Solovyov.
"The prosecutor's office is asking to cancel the verdict and send the case for a new trial to the magistrate's court," Solovyov told RIA Novosti.
The lawyer clarified that by law, district courts cannot consider cases under Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. He also filed a complaint asking for the verdict to be overturned, citing the inconsistency of the article with the norms of international law and the Constitution. The case, along with the prosecutor's complaint, will be considered by the Moscow City Court in February.
