The State Duma proposed to give the protection of energy facilities the right to firearms

The State Duma Committee on Energy proposed allowing the protection of energy facilities to use military firearms in order to protect against drone attacks. This was announced on January 21 by the head of the Duma committee Nikolai Shulginov.

He noted that the safety of energy facilities in modern conditions remains one of the key issues for the stable operation of the entire fuel and energy complex (fuel and energy complex). In 2024-2025, the State Duma has already adopted a number of initiatives aimed at strengthening the protection of energy facilities.

"Our task is to adapt the legislation to new threats and challenges. We are working on the issue of granting employees of security organizations the right to use military firearms to protect power facilities from attacks by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), on the parameters of protecting such facilities from the effects of UAVs in the extraterritorial waters of Russia and on the continental shelf,"RIA Novosti quoted Shulginov as saying.

He clarified that the committee's attention also remains on the procedure for compensation of damage to third parties if they suffered as a result of the proper performance by the security of their duties to protect the energy facility from UAVs.
