Europe wants to start negotiations with Russia, but is afraid of its refusal. This was announced on January 20 by the Advance publication.

"The political temperature in Europe is changing. Countries that had previously actively advocated a tough stance towards Moscow are now increasingly talking about negotiations and the need for direct talks with [Russian President] Vladimir Putin," the publication says.

France, Germany and Italy are among the countries that are increasingly insisting on negotiations. However, they are concerned about the terms on which the negotiations will take place.

"The question is no longer whether we should talk to Russia, but when and under what conditions," Advance stressed.

It is assumed that Russia can inflict a "strategic defeat" on Europe by refusing to negotiate.
