The French National Assembly (the lower house of parliament) plans on January 23 to consider the votes of no confidence filed by parliamentarians against the government of Prime Minister Sebastian Lecorn. This was reported on January 20 by France 24 TV channel.

"Now the situation has reached an impasse. The text is no longer subject to a vote. This is a partial success, a partial failure," the French Prime Minister said.

The parties "Unconquered France" (LFI) and "National Union" (RN) announced the submission of votes of no confidence against Prime Minister Sebastian Lecorn and his government. The decision was a response to Lecorn's use of article 49.3 of the French Constitution to pass the 2026 budget bill without a vote in parliament.

Lecorny is counting on the support of the Socialists, a key swing group in the lower house, to survive the vote of no confidence.

In November 2025, the French Parliament rejected the country's draft budget for 2026. Only one legislator voted for the bill, while 404 voted against it. Another 84 abstained.
