- The human rights activist spoke about the condition of a Russian woman in prison in Australia.
Russian woman Kira Koroleva, who is imprisoned in Australia, has deteriorated due to the lack of necessary medical care. Ivan Melnikov, Vice President of the Russian branch of the International Committee for the Protection of Human Rights, told Izvestia on January 20.
"The state of Kira Koroleva's health is of great concern at the moment," Melnikov said.
According to him, Koroleva's heart disease has worsened, her legs, including her knee, are swollen, and there is also a suspicion of eye cancer.
Melnikov explained that relatives of the prisoner had contacted him with a statement about the violation of her rights. He noted that over the past nine months she had been complaining of heart pain, but her requests for an examination had been ignored.
The human rights defender added that he had talked with doctors about this issue and, according to them, such a state of health may indicate the danger of blood clots and lead to death without medical care.
ABC TV channel reported in July 2024 that Australian law enforcement officers had detained spouses Kira and Igor Korolev in Brisbane on charges of attempted espionage. The Queens have Russian and Australian citizenship.
