The European Union (EU) will continue to support Ukraine, even if the United States captures Greenland. Dmitry Solonnikov, director of the Institute of Modern State Development and a political scientist, said this in an interview with Izvestia.

"The Ukrainian issue will not completely leave the agenda. Having lost in one place, the European Union will try to rehabilitate itself in another, that is, it will continue to help Kiev. I think they will pretend that the unity of NATO is preserved," he said.

According to the expert, European leaders expect that the power of American leader Donald Trump in the United States will soon be limited.

"Globally, they expect the Democrats to win the midterm elections to the American Congress in November, and opinion polls in the United States show that such a scenario is quite possible. They will continue to hope for the victory of the democratic candidate in the presidential elections in 2028," the political scientist explained.

On January 20, following telephone conversations with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump announced a meeting on Greenland in Davos, Switzerland. He noted that he clearly expressed the importance of the island for the security of the United States.

On the same day, the US president declared that Denmark was not capable of defending Greenland. According to him, some Danish officials don't even visit the island. He added that Washington should get the island. Read more about how the crisis around Greenland affects the positions of official Kiev in the Izvestia article.
