Von der Leyen announces EU-India deal
The European Commission (EC) is preparing to sign a free trade agreement with India. This was announced on January 20 by EC President Ursula von der Leyen.
"We are on the verge of a historic trade agreement, which many will call the 'mother of all deals,'" von der Leyen said at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The EC President also noted that Europe is striving to strengthen its economic ties with modern growth centers and economic powers of this century, from Latin America to the Indo-Pacific region and beyond. In this context, the free trade agreement with India represents an important step towards expanding these ties.
Earlier, on November 26, 2025, Von der Leyen announced a ready-made document on the seizure of frozen assets of the Russian Federation. The head of the EC also added that the commission would not allow the provision of financial assistance to Ukraine "only at the expense of European taxpayers."
