A court in the Leningrad region has chosen a measure of restraint for a motorist who got drunk behind the wheel, caused a fatal accident and fled. This is reported by the regional prosecutor's office.

The accident occurred on January 17 at 19:03 on the 14th km of the Gatchina–Opole highway. According to police, the 37-year-old driver of a Porsche Cayenne drove into oncoming traffic in a place where it is prohibited, and crashed into a Lada Kalina driven by a 43-year-old man.

The driver of a domestic car died on the spot. The Porsche driver fled without calling paramedics, but was soon arrested. He was taken to a medical facility, after which he was handed over to police officers.

As it turned out, he was intoxicated at the time of the accident, clarifies 78.ru . The police also found that in 2025, the Porsche driver was prosecuted for traffic violations more than 130 times.

A criminal case was opened against the motorist under clauses "a, b", Part 4 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of traffic rules that negligently caused the death of a person, committed by a person in a state of intoxication, associated with leaving the place of its commission"). The court chose a preventive measure against him in the form of detention.

The police noted that the Ford Focus car, which was moving along the road at that moment, was also damaged as a result of the accident.
