General practitioner Nadezhda Chernyshova on Tuesday, January 20, warned about the danger of magnetic storms for cores.

In conversation with aif.ru She noted that there are a number of studies indicating the possible impact of magnetic storms on the condition of people with cardiovascular diseases. According to her, fluctuations in the magnetic field can affect the operation of machinery and weather processes, but the issue of their impact on human health is still controversial in the scientific community.

Chernyshova explained that, on the one hand, strong changes in the magnetic field, which cause malfunctions in technology, can theoretically affect humans, but, as a rule, do not affect the condition of healthy people. She added that there are studies confirming an increase in the number of cardiovascular disasters after magnetic storms, as well as works that refute such a connection, so there is no consensus on this issue yet.

At the same time, the doctor stressed that people who are sensitive to changes in the magnetic field, including weather-dependent ones, should pay more attention to their well-being on such days.

Earlier, scientists warned of strong magnetic storms approaching the Earth on January 20. A magnetic storm has caused an aurora borealis across Russia.

According to experts from the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the magnetic storm on Earth has intensified again to a level close to G4. This surge is presumably the last in the current event. After its completion, the geomagnetic storm should stabilize by the end of the day at the G1–G3 level, the Moscow City News Agency reports.

On the same day, Nathan Eismont, a leading researcher at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Associate professor of Mechanics and Control Processes at the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, told NSN that an extreme magnetic storm was affecting communications, serious interference with GPS and GLONASS was expected, and power outages could also occur.

Also on January 20, Russian astronomers reported that the first impulsive phase of the geomagnetic storm was coming to an end in space. The speed of the solar wind has decreased to 900 km/s, which is still 2.5–3 times higher than normal, while the induction of the Earth's magnetic field remains increased by about ten times, the website notes. kp.ru .

The magnetic storm on Earth began on January 19 after the most powerful solar flare since the beginning of 2026. The plasma stream reached the planet in the evening. According to experts, residents of regions that are usually located well south of the Aurora borealis zone will be able to observe the Aurora borealis these days. 360.ru . In addition, experts reported the highest value of the solar proton flux in the 21st century.

The first Class X outbreak in 2026 was recorded on the evening of January 18. It was accompanied by the release of plasma in the direction of the Earth, says RIAMO.

Magnetic field induction is now the only correctly measured indicator of the solar wind, and it shows values close to historical records, IA Regnum notes.
