Lavrov pointed out that Europe was missing chances for a settlement in Ukraine
European countries have consistently missed all opportunities for a political settlement of the situation around Ukraine since 2014. This was announced on January 20 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
"Europe blew its chance for the first time, sorry for the harsh word, in February 2014, when it could not force the opposition to fulfill the terms of the treaty guaranteed by Europe," he said at a press conference following the results of Russian diplomacy in 2025.
The second possibility, according to Lavrov, was the signing of the Minsk Agreements in February 2015 with the participation of France and Germany. However, later representatives of European countries themselves stated that these agreements were used only to gain time for Kiev.
The minister also pointed to December 2021, when Europe did not support Russia's initiative to conclude an agreement on security guarantees between the Russian Federation and NATO. In addition, he recalled the events of the spring of 2022, when the parameters of a possible settlement were agreed in Istanbul, but the European states did not take steps to preserve the agreements reached.
The Politico newspaper reported on January 19 that Europe deliberately violated Russia's red lines during negotiations to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. It was clarified that the reaction of these states often amounted to sabotage of the efforts of the American president of the United States on the Ukrainian issue.
In turn, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said on January 15 that the Russian position on the conflict in Ukraine is known and does not need additional signals. She also noted Moscow's openness to an equal dialogue. According to Zakharova, Russia does not see the slightest willingness for dialogue from the European side.
At the same time, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on January 20 that Ukraine was in a very bad situation on the front line and in political life. He also believes that the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, and Europe are hysterically trying to impose on the United States the idea of a truce in Ukraine.
