China reduced exports of passenger cars to Russia by 42%
In 2025, the export of passenger cars from China to Russia decreased by 42% to 632.3 thousand units. This was reported by TASS on January 20, citing data from the General Customs Administration of the People's Republic of China.
The total value of cars shipped from China to Russia last year was $8.46 billion, which is 44.3% less year-on-year. At the same time, according to this indicator, the Russian Federation still ranks first among all countries purchasing cars from China. Next in the ranking are the United Arab Emirates ($8.06 billion), the United Kingdom ($6.86 billion), Belgium ($6.59 billion) and Mexico ($6.34 billion).
In general, in 2025, China increased exports of motor vehicles (including both passenger cars and other vehicles) by 30%, to 8.32 million. Their cost amounted to $142.45 billion ($110.41 billion is for passenger cars).
Earlier, on January 15, Russian dealers said that after the changes related to the recycling fee, the economic model of the car business in Russia is shifting towards localization. Many market players see the need to organize the assembly of machines in the country.
As Sergey Tselikov, director of Autostat, told on January 14, sales of Chinese-built cars in Russia decreased by 38% in 2025, a total of 489 thousand such cars were sold. At the same time, sales of Russian-built cars in 2025 increased by 8%, while the overall car market declined. So, during the year, 701.7 thousand new cars were sold in the Russian Federation, rolled off Russian assembly lines. Their market share has grown to 52.9%.
