The European Union (EU) will include the topic of Arctic security in its new security strategy, which will be approved in 2026. This was announced on January 20 by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

"That is why Europe is preparing its own security strategy, which we plan to present later this year. As part of this, we are updating our Arctic strategy," von der Leyen said.

She noted that Europe needs to respond in a timely manner to new changes in the security architecture and the realities that EU countries have to face. According to her, the new Arctic strategy will be based on the principle that allows nations to determine their own future.

CNN reported on this day that the United States and Denmark are able to reduce tensions around Greenland by updating the agreement on the protection of the island, signed in 1951.
