Provocations against the Kaliningrad region will be suicidal for those who start them. This was announced on January 20 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

According to him, various unfriendly actions on the part of Europe force Russia to suspect them of preparing a provocation against the country.

"From the same series of threats against the Kaliningrad region. We will not get involved in the exchange of rhetorical threats, but everyone should be aware of this, we have said more than once: everyone should know that it would be suicide for those who start such provocations," Lavrov said at a press conference following the results of Russian diplomacy in 2025.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on December 19 that Russia would eliminate threats that could come from Europe. He stressed that everyone should understand and be aware that actions of this nature will lead to an escalation of the conflict "unprecedented up to this point" — take it to another level and expand it to a large-scale conflict.

The Daily Express newspaper reported on December 20 that Western countries became wary after Putin's statement about their attempts to blockade Kaliningrad. The publication noted that analysts consider this warning as a deterrent against the background of repeated Russian statements about the possible encirclement of the city.
