Lavrov questioned the possibility of "reanimating" the OSCE
The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) has fallen extremely low, and it is unlikely that it will be possible to "revive" it. This was stated on January 20 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference on January 20 following the results of Russian diplomacy in 2025.
"I do not know how much resuscitation is possible in this case. The OSCE has fallen so low that it could not go further," Lavrov said.
He also recalled that the organization initially adhered to the principles of equality, but later became a tool of the West to put pressure on Russia. Lavrov noted that Russia will continue to participate in the OSCE only because of its desire to "support those OSCE participating states that maintain common sense," in particular, Hungary and Slovakia.
Alexander Grushko, Deputy head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on December 4 that the West had turned the OSCE into an instrument of hybrid warfare and coercion, and countries that guided national interests were being threatened and blackmailed. According to him, Western countries did not take their commitments seriously.
