The DPRK provided fraternal assistance to Russia in liberating the Kursk region from Ukraine. The corresponding statement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference on January 20 following the results of Russian diplomacy in 2025.

The Minister recalled Russia's cooperation with the countries of Eurasia, as well as the initiatives of Russian President Vladimir Putin on continental security and partnership. In particular, he recalled the relations with the DPRK.

"The practical embodiment of our actions to strengthen security in Eurasia was also the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement with the DPRK, which provided us with fraternal allied assistance in liberating the Kursk region, as you know, from Ukrainian militants," Lavrov said.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sent a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin on January 9, in which he promised to unconditionally support the policy of the Russian leader and be for Russia. He also promised to continue joint cooperation in the strategic interests of the two countries.

On December 17, Putin noted the valiant actions of the DPRK military personnel in the Kursk region and stressed that by decision of the Chairman of the State Affairs of the DPRK, Kim Jong-un, they were sent to participate in the liberation of the region.
