- Berliner Zeitung pointed to the failure of the "peace plan" of Ukraine and the EU without the United States
The peace plan being developed by Ukraine jointly with the European Union (EU) has no prospects without the participation of the United States. This was announced on January 19 by Gerhard Mongott, an expert on international relations, in a comment to the Berliner Zeitung newspaper.
"This 20—point plan, the exact content of which is unknown to us observers, is doomed to failure without the support of the United States," he said.
The expert also expressed doubt about the possibility of deploying a European military contingent in Ukraine. He pointed out that without the readiness of the United States to ensure the protection of the European military in the event of a clash with Russian forces, such steps would be impossible.
Axios reported on January 9 that representatives of the administration of US President Donald Trump had practically agreed with Ukraine on all aspects of a possible agreement to end the crisis. According to the portal, the parties are awaiting a response from Russian President Vladimir Putin, while a visit by the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, to the United States to finalize the agreements is not excluded.
In turn, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on January 15 that the Russian side's position on the Ukrainian crisis was known and did not need additional signals. Moscow is open to an equal dialogue.
