The Australian authorities have closed 20 beaches on the Sydney coast for swimming after several shark attacks on surfers. This was reported on January 20 by the local TV channel 9News.

"Authorities have closed 20 beaches, warning swimmers to be careful after a series of attacks," the report said.

Earlier, on January 18, it was reported that a 12-year-old boy suffered serious leg injuries after being attacked by a shark in Sydney Harbor. He was pulled out of the water at Shark Beach, given first aid on the spot and hospitalized. The incident occurred outside a mesh fence designed to protect swimmers.
