Russians continue to accumulate retirement points for future retirement even during parental leave: one year of maternity leave earns from 1.8 retirement points. Natalia Melnikova, senator and former head of the Pskov Region department of the Social Fund, told about this on January 19.

"For women, for the period of child care up to 1.5 years, pension coefficients are calculated for one calendar year: for the first child – 1.8 IPK (individual pension coefficient. — Ed.), 3.6 IPC for the second child, 5.4 IPC for the third child and each subsequent one," the senator told RIA Novosti.

Melnikova also clarified that pension points for the period of child care are taken into account when calculating pensions, while coefficients are calculated only if a person did not work or make contributions during this period.
