- Kim Jong-un removed Yang Seung-ho from the post of Deputy Prime Minister of the DPRK at a public ceremony
North Korean Leader Kim Jong‑un dismissed Deputy Prime Minister Yang Seung-ho from his post at a public ceremony at the Renson Engineering Association. This was reported on January 20 by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
"The reality of our Homeland moving towards wealth and prosperity requires strong pioneers and true fighters — those who, carrying on their shoulders today, bring the future closer," Kim Jong-un is quoted as saying in the publication.
According to the country's leader, the existing management forces are not ready to streamline and technically reconstruct the industry, so it is necessary to stop relying on employees who have been irresponsible and passive for a long time, which became the basis for the decision to dismiss Yang Seung Ho.
Kim Jong-un also noted the importance of further development of the machine‑building industry and the production of modern equipment, stressing that the modernization of enterprises such as the Renson Machine-Building Association creates a solid material and technical basis for sustainable economic growth and progress of the country.
Earlier, on January 5, it was reported that exercises on launching hypersonic missiles were held in the DPRK, in which the leader of the state also took part. It was clarified that the exercises were conducted as part of an operational assessment of the stability, effectiveness and functioning of the DPRK's nuclear deterrence.
