- The Russian Embassy was not invited to the celebration of the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz
Poland has not invited representatives of the Russian embassy to events marking the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in Auschwitz. This was announced on January 19 by Andrei Ordash, Charge d'affaires of the Russian Federation in Poland.
"We were not invited, as in previous years," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
Ordash added that despite this, Russia will continue to preserve the memory of the victims of the Nazi camps and the exploits of the Soviet soldiers who liberated Auschwitz-Birkenau at Auschwitz.
Ordash said at a commemorative event on January 17 in honor of Poland's liberation from German occupation that Russia was fighting the "historical amnesia" of Poland, which had begun to forget about the actions of Nazi troops on its territory. He added that European states declaring freedom of speech deliberately block alternative sources of information that tell about the Nazi occupation of Poland and other countries.
