Zakharova called the EU policy anecdotal
On January 19, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the EU's policy anecdotal, commenting on the words of a Brussels official about the lack of humor in EU public statements.
She cited a media report in which an anonymous official pointed out that representatives of the association's institutions joke too little in their statements, and this harms the communication of their messages to the public.
"In my opinion, the lack of jokes is more than compensated by the anecdotal nature of EU policy," she wrote on her Telegram channel.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry added that in this context, and without humor, "you can laugh."
Earlier in the day, Politico newspaper reported that the EU deliberately violated Russia's red lines during negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. The EU's reaction, according to the publication, often boiled down to sabotaging the efforts of US President Donald Trump on the Ukrainian issue.
On January 18, Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), advised the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, not to drink before writing posts on the social network X (former. Twitter). He recalled a recent publication by the Politico newspaper about Callas, where journalists told how she jokingly suggested starting drinking because of global instability.
Zakharova, responding to a question from Izvestia, said on January 15 that Russia's position on the Ukrainian conflict was known and did not need additional signals. Moscow is open to an equal dialogue. She stressed that Russia does not see the slightest willingness for dialogue from the European side.
