Patriarch Kirill called Putin an Orthodox leader
On January 19, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia called Russian President Vladimir Putin an Orthodox leader in his Epiphany sermon at Moscow's Epiphany Cathedral.
"We have reached the time when the head of our state is truly Orthodox, not, as they say, according to protocol, but according to beliefs Orthodox, leader Vladimir Vladimirovich [Putin]," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
According to the primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, this indicates that a miracle of God took place through the prayers of the saints.
Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Putin had traditionally dipped into the Baptismal font during the Epiphany celebration. He added that Epiphany is a great holiday both for the head of state and for all Orthodox workers of the Kremlin.
